The Power You Cannot Live Without

Luke 24:49

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Reflection

There is a dangerous assumption many believers live with, and it is this: that we can live the Christian life in our own strength. We may not say it out loud, but our lives often reflect it. We try harder, we do better, we make commitments, we set goals—but somewhere along the way, we begin to rely more on our effort than on God’s power. And what happens is predictable. We grow tired. We struggle with the same sins. We feel like something is missing. Jesus addressed this very issue when He told His disciples to wait until they were clothed with power from on high. These were men who had walked with Him, learned from Him, and witnessed His miracles. Yet even they were not ready to live out the mission without the power of the Holy Spirit. If they needed that power, how much more do we? The Christian life was never meant to be lived in human strength. It was designed to be lived in divine power. You cannot produce spiritual results through natural effort. You cannot overcome sin, live in victory, or fulfill God’s calling by simply trying harder. You need power that comes from beyond yourself. So today, stop trying to manufacture what only God can provide. Recognize your need. Acknowledge your weakness. And begin to depend on the power that God has already promised to give.

Prayer

Lord, I confess that I often try to live this life in my own strength. Help me to recognize my need for Your power and to depend fully on the Holy Spirit in every area of my life. Amen.
