God Works Through The Weak

2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Reflection

One of the greatest misconceptions in the Christian life is that God is looking for strong, capable, self-sufficient people. We think that if we can just get our lives together, if we can become more disciplined, more consistent, more capable, then God will use us. But Scripture tells a different story. God works through weakness. Moses felt inadequate, but God spoke through him. David was overlooked, but God gave him victory. Gideon was fearful, but God used him mightily. Over and over again, we see that God’s power is not displayed through human strength—it is revealed through human weakness. That is good news, because it means you do not have to have it all together for God to work in your life. In fact, your awareness of your weakness is what positions you to depend on His strength. When you stop trying to prove yourself and start trusting Him, that is when His power is made visible. So do not be discouraged by your limitations. Do not feel disqualified by your weaknesses. Instead, bring them before God and allow Him to work through them. His power is perfected not in your strength, but in your surrender.

Prayer

Father, thank You that You do not require me to be strong on my own. Help me to embrace my weakness so that Your power can be displayed in my life. Use me for Your glory. Amen.
