God Uses Ordinary People

Acts 2:4

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

Reflection

One of the most encouraging truths about Pentecost is that God did not choose polished professionals to change the world. He chose ordinary people. Fishermen. Tax collectors. Common men and women who had weaknesses, fears, and limitations just like us. And yet, when the Holy Spirit filled them, those ordinary people became instruments of extraordinary power. That matters because many believers disqualify themselves before God ever has the chance to use them. They focus on what they cannot do, what they do not know, or what they feel they lack. “I can’t speak well.” “I’m not talented enough.” “I’m not prepared enough.” But Pentecost reminds us that the issue has never been human ability—the issue is divine empowerment. Peter did not naturally know all those languages spoken on Pentecost. The Spirit enabled him. The disciples were not capable in themselves of launching a movement that would shake the world. But God equipped them for what He had called them to do. And He still does the same today. God is not searching for flawless people. He is looking for available people. People willing to say, “Lord, here I am. Fill me. Use me.” The power never comes from us. It comes from Him. So stop focusing on your inability and start focusing on His ability. The greatest limitation in your life is not weakness—it is unwillingness.

Prayer

Lord, help me to stop focusing on what I cannot do and trust You to work through my weakness. Make me available for whatever You desire to do through my life. Amen.
